Remember Ring Gives You a Burning Reminder

One of the worst things, if not the worst, a husband can do is forget his own anniversary. You will never forget to get flowers or some jewelry with your Remember Ring.

It looks like a standard ring, nothing special. But inside, there’s a heating element that will start to heat up when it’s about 24 hours to the special day. The temperature starts at 120 F and keeps getting warmer every hour from there.

The heat isn’t constant, though, it only last for ten seconds. That’s enough to cause discomfort, which is better than getting ignored for a week or two, but not enough to be really painful.

There’s no need for batteries, either. The micro thermopile converts the heat from your hand into electricity which will keep your battery charged and the microchip clock running constantly.

You can even get two, if you’re extremely forgetful, one for the anniversary, and one for the birthday. It’s pretty bad if you’re that forgetful, though.

The Remember Ring has a special nagging feature, using its "Hot Spot" technology that warms up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 seconds, every hour, on the hour, beginning 24 hours before that "special day," apparently honoring the anniversary of your voluntary servitude. That's supposed to be warm enough to be uncomfortable but not hot enough to burn you. The Remember Ring converts the heat from your hand into electricity using a micro-thermo pile, keeping that battery charged and its heat-bomb clock ticking away, ready to burn you again next year.

Computer in a Pen

P-ISM is a gadget package including five functions: a pen-style cellular phone with a handwriting data input function, virtual keyboard, a very small projector, camera scanner, and personal ID key with cashless pass function. P-ISMs are connected with one another through short-range wireless technology. The whole set is also connected to the Internet through the cellular phone function. This personal gadget in a minimalistic pen style enables the ultimate ubiquitous computing.

This product allows you to work from anywhere in the world and have everything that you need at your fingertips. We all know that enough processing power and tri-wireless modes (Bluetooth, 802.11B/G, and Cellular) can fit into small devices (PSP, Treo’s). NEC only adds a viewing device (the projector) and an input device (a laser keyboard) to bring us to miniature-mobile computing. We know the input devices already function as seen in the picture below (although this devices causes numbness/pain in your fingers because you are typing on a hard surface) now can’t we just get a smaller projectors.

Mouseless: Now That’S Magical and Revolutionary

Pranav Mistry loves creating new ways of using and interacting with computers – he was the one who created SixthSense, a portable interface which projects interactive images, not only intuitive and practical but cool as hell to use. Now he and colleagues Patti Maes and Liyan Chang have come up with Mouseless, a substitute for the mouse that – surprise – doesn’t use a mouse at all.

Using an IR laser, an IR camera and specialized software, Mouseless is able to interpret hand and finger movements. Basically, the laser illuminates parts of the hand that are touching the surface of the table. The camera tracks those illuminated parts, and the software sorts out what kind of commands are being sent, from simple movement to clicks to multi-touch gestures.

Communication is key with current times. Devices need to be able to connect together to share information so that appointments are not missed and family are a button press away. This watch is what ties all these devices together. It is a wireless hub which communicates with the laptop, roll up screen and the other gadgets and allows you to see at a glance what is happening.

Smart Pen

The smart pen is capable of writing on any surface and then storing what was just written in to its memory so you can download it later. Overall I am impressed with the ideas put forward by HP although most, if not all is not new technology but rather a nice mixture of what we have now, shrunk down a little and made to look good. The idea of having all the devices together is good, but at the same time we are seeing a lot of devices being built together such as the Phone/MP3 and pocket computer in 1 device.

Smartphone and Tablet Combine in to TransPhone

The TransPhone has a processor clocked at 1.2GHz. The CPU is provided by Qualcomm and is dual-core. The tablet screen is capable of SVGA resolutions although we don't know what screen size the tablet or the phone have. We suspect a 10 inch and 4 inch config.
Although the concept is the same as the PadFone, there are differences in design such as the PadFone being enclosed inside the tablet while the TransPhone seems to just dock in the back and not be covered.
The TransPhone comes with a bluetooth headset allowing calls to be made and received while using the unit in tablet mode. What we don't know is what OS will be running on the tablet. We think it will be an Adroid tablet and expect that it will launch with IceCream rather than Honeycomb due to the ability of the newer Android working on Smartphones as well as tablets.

LG Smartscan Mouse

As luxury yacht charter brokers, we're constantly scanning client documents - from bareboat charter contracts to food and beverage preference sheets.  Scanning saves our clients' time and allows us to share their information with yacht crews around the globe.  The latest mouse from LG has a built-in scanner, which the company says will "open a new era for scanners."  Simply click the Smart Scan button on the left side of the mouse, then swipe it over the material to be scanned.

The scanned image can then be saved in a variety of file types, or dragged and dropped into a document or application. LG's Optical Character Recognition technology converts scanned text into a Microsoft Word document that can then be edited as required. The 2-in-1 device can scan page sizes up to A3, which is larger than most conventional portable scanners.

One way of Cheating in an Exam

Since exams have ever existed, people have always wanted to find a way to get the answers (or in other words, cheat). Strict rules are generally put in place to prevent this from happening. The latest however, might not have been expected. A while back they wrote about the M500 watch which is a regular watch but with a cell phone built in. A watch the same, or similar, had been receiving SMS messages through the exam and the teacher spotted it. The kid must have been crazy though as he was playing with his watch throughout the exam. This has now resulted in a ban across Thailand of people wearing watches in to exams. You can imagine cellphones being built in to other objects in the future such as glasses, pens and other various items you bring to class. Maybe it's time to start looking at blocking cell phone signals while people are in class although that it's self would raise a few human rights eye brows.

A Gadget that helps to save the planet is not normally the first choice hear on GFM… But one that can also save you money and give your PC some protection peaked our interest. I give you, the Eco-button.

You give the large green button a push and hey presto, the magic happens, or in other words, you PC quickly goes into “Eco Mode”. Eco Mode is essentially standby mode that keeps you hard drive running, but does it while only using 1.8 watts of power (apparently that is loads less then most normal standby modes). Citi: Next-gen iPad to launch in February with Retina display

The iPad 3 is being upgraded with a retina display with double the pixel density of current iPad devices (iPad 1+2 sport 132 pixels per inch), which would be one of the main selling points. It's also been reported that Apple's eying a February 2012 release date. A retina display wouldn't necessarily require a larger chassis, so perhaps Apple is also gearing up to upgrade the iPad 2's craptacular cameras, especially since the rear-facing camera on the iPhone 4S is arguably point-and-shoot quality, and leaps and pounds ahead of the iPad (not arguable). In November there were several reports pointing towards a slightly thicker, but higher res design, while DigiTimes claimed around the same time that Apple was working on a dual-LED back lighting system as an alternative for an iPad 3 with Retina display and suppliers had already begun shipping panels for the device.

The Magic Wand Remote Control

When I first saw this, I thought it was a joke. There are various moves for different functions. It also has a pulse, a bit like a heartbeat, that will tell you when your battery is running low.
If you are not using for a certain amount of time, it goes to 'sleep' and wakes when you want to use it again.I like the way that you have to learn how to use it. Flick it, to turn on and off the TV, or other devise. If you want to turn the sound up or down you twist it, and if you are one for grand gestures, give it a big swirl and it will mute the TV. Brilliant. And the best thing about it is you don't look stupid when you say you have fallen in love with the remote!
The Wand is made by The Wand Company. And the full name of it is The Wand Remote Control, Kymera.

Prices.

This fantastic little Gizmo comes at a really good price.
From the Firebox.com company it is £49.99

Belkin Wireless Dual-Band Travel Router

This Travel Router is very compact. It isn’t as tiny as you see in this picture, but it is a small 3 x 4 inches. It is made for travelers who want to take a hot spot with them as they travel, so they “do not have to rely on wired Ethernet connections or slow bandwidth”. This device will come in handy for when you are traveling with friends, and you can pay for one hotel Internet connection to get all the devices online at the same time. The Belkin F9K1107 Wireless Dual-Band Travel Router is designed to be taken on the road and more importantly stuffed inside a bag.   There is no mention of its actual measurements, but Belkin is tossing in a a carrying case that holds the plug and some additional cords.  Like many of today’s full sized routers it supports WiFi b/g/n and simultaneous dual band mode.  There is also the usual assortment of security protocols and even a push button WPS setup.  So at the end of the day it’s a full featured router, though it lacks the additional Ethernet ports or a USB port for sharing storage devices on the network.  It’s just too bad there isn’t a built-in battery.
If you want to see if you can get some access to free Internet at whatever hotels you stay at, then I suggest you head over to the Belkin website and pay $79.95 for the Wireless Dual-Band Travel Router.

PRINTBRUSH – PORTABLE HANDHELD PRINTER

It was already a years ago it was been posted. But because I was amazed and it was already my first time I watch it I decided to post it. A new amazing printing technology making it possible to build the smallest printers in the world that can handle letter-size format. Printbrush is a handheld printer that remembers its positional coordinates when it is placed on a sheet of paper. As you wave your hand across the page, Printbrush deposits ink on the page in 600 DPI. Printbrush is flexible enough to print on any flat surface including fabric.

Crazy wheelchair attachment lets you cruise in electric style

Professor X take note: the WHILL is one snazzy wheelchair accessory. The latest in innovative solutions for people with physical disabilities, this crazy-looking device made by the Japanese company of the same name attaches to any standard wheelchair and turns it into an electric vehicle, allowing the user to navigate with environmentally-friendly ease.
While the WHILL might look like a giant pair of headphones, it's actually more akin to a Segway. Two hubs clamp onto the wheelchair's wheels, and are connected via a curved control arm that passes over the user's waist. Each hub contains a 24-volt motor powered by a lithium ion battery pack. The user steers by leaning in the direction they want to go, much like piloting a Segway.
The batteries take about two hours to charge, and one charge will take you about 19 miles at a top speed of about 12.5 mph.

Light Touch takes virtual interfaces to a colorful level

Man, it seems like years ago that a small company in Israel introduced us to a light projected keyboard interface. If you remember it, it displayed a red keyboard template and the projector was able to determine what key the user was pressing and translate it to text on a screen. This enabled the user to completely get rid of a physical QWERTY keyboard and provide extra space on the desk (which I could use considering I’m using two keyboards at the moment). But Light Blue Optics is taking it to a whole new level with Light Touch, a complete keyboard and display interface which brings computing to just about any surface.

Best Smartphones of 2011, Editors Choice [Updated]

1. Samsung Galaxy Nexus
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first ever smartphone to officially rock Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which in itself packs numerous new features over Gingerbread yet was developed with optimisation in mind. With that being said on the software front, the Galaxy Nexus boasts a dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9 CPU and a beautiful 4.65 inch Super Amoled display, arguably the best display which can be found in a smartphone.

2. Apple iPhone 4S
The iPhone 4S is the latest update to Apple’s iPhone line and boasts some pretty slick specifications, including a dual-core A5 processor, iOS 5 + Siri and an 8 megapixel camera which in our tests come out on top of the Nokia N8′s 12 MP snapper, marketed by Nokia as the best ‘smartphone camera’.

3. Nokia Lumia 800
The Nokia Lumia 800 is a god send of a smartphone; it marks the return of Nokia with a highly capable smartphone and it marks the start of true desirability for Windows based smartphones. Crafted from a single block of impeccably durable polycarbonate, the Nokia Lumia 800 is one of the best smartphones of 2011 with hot features such as a 3.7″ Clear Black display, 8 megapixel camera and of course, Windows Phone Mango the slick Windows Phone 7 update.

4. Samsung Galaxy S II
The original Samsung Galaxy S was one of our single favorite smartphones of 2010. It also won consumer choices awards, and when you check out the spec sheet it makes no wonder why it did all of that. The update to this handset, the Samsung Galaxy S2, is so well kitted out with features that it can happily be made one of the best smartphones of 2011.
The S II features a dual-core Samsung Exynos processor (amazingly fast), NFC Tech support, an 8 megapixel Camera, Android Gingerbread (an Ice Cream Sandwich update is coming) and rocks Samsung’s Super Amoled display. All of this has made for the Galaxy S II to become the best selling Android smartphone in the world.
5. HTC Sensation / XE
The HTC Sensation is arguably just as good a smartphone as the Galaxy S II above, however in our opinion, the Galaxy S II tops it (thinner, more pocketable). The HTC Sensation, like the S II above, features a mammoth dual-core processor, a gorgeous qHD Super LCD display (quarter HD) and is wrapped in a luscious unparalleled unibody enclosure for durability.
6. LG Optimus 3D
A Glasses-free display, on a smartphone? You bet. That’s the name of the game with the LG Optimus 3D, which was revealed at this years MWC. The Optimus 3D comes with a  4.3-inch glasses-free 3D display, capable of rendering 3D effects in games, film and even the user interface itself.

Memo Touch is the tablet for elders, senior citizens gather around

Being that our average reader age is 25 – 35, we are relying on you guys to give your grandparent or parent a heads up on a new tablet called the Memo Touch, specifically designed for senior citizens with short-term memory loss. As you can see from the image above, the tablet is a reminder and schedule orientated device, allowing you to plan tasks quickly and simply rolling up to-do lists and reminders to help you get through the day.
Memo is a breakthrough product designed specifically for persons with memory loss and the people who care for them. Elders need no computer experience to use it. “If they can watch TV, they can use a Memo,” says Memo co-founder Carrie Beia. Family members manage the information displayed on the Memo remotely from a companion caregiver website. They can add and update reminders from home, work, or wherever they have internet access.Because access to the caregiver website can be shared among siblings, aides, assisted living staff, and other helpers, Memo facilitates communication and coordination of care. Everyone with access can see the messages, calendar items, to-do lists, and medications. It eliminates the additional responsibility typically placed on the primary caregiver to keep all interested parties informed.
By inputting information on a companion website, family members can post:
- A “crawl line” with personalized messages
- A calendar in daily or weekly view, with audio alerts
- Weather forecast
- A “To-Do” list
- A list of frequently-called phone numbers
- A list of medications by day of week and time of day
- Albums of family photos

The latest digital camera news

Following the recent magnitude 9 earthquake and ensuing tsunami that have struck Japan both Nikon and Canon have stopped production at their plants. This is both in response to the interruption to power supplies, the impact of the human tragedy and damage done to their plants and the plants of their suppliers, preventing the delivery of components. There have also been reports of injuries to staff and those of their suppliers. Canon and Nikon have both donated money to help with the earthquake relief efforts with over 400 million Yen donated between them. It remains to be seen how soon production will resume and what impact this will have on the camera market as stocks begin to run out.
Pentax has just released its new Pentax Optio RS1500 which is available in a wide range of customised exteriors. As a camera it is very much in line with the field with a 14 megapixel sensor and three inch display but the camera’s exterior is interchangeable and comes in a wide range of colours and styles with customised styles for individuals and businesses also available. The body covers are matched by lens rings to give the whole camera a unique look. The camera offers nothing unusual with four times optical zoom and being capable of shooting up to 720p video. It is rather surprising how much digital cameras are beginning to lag behind smart phones as the top smartphones and tablets now offer 1080p recording as a standard feature, the processing power requirement and cost of including that feature may mean the days of dedicated low end digital cameras are numbered as the more highly subsidised and higher volume smartphones move in to the market place, especially when some of them sport dedicated lenses and sensors that match the hardware in the current generation of digital cameras. Other RS1500 features include face and blink detection along with improved automatic shooting modes to make taking photographs easier. Oddly it lacks an HDMI port and has a very limited 21 MB of internal storage, far too little to shoot any length of video and rather disappointing given the low price of flash memory. This can be improved on with SD and SDHC cards up to 32 GB.
Lumix have recently released their FP5 and FP7 models, two elegantly shaped cameras that have single colour, shiny finishes. Both cameras can record 720p film with their stabilised four times optical lenses. The LCD screens on both cameras have grown since the previous models with 3 and 3.5 inch displays now for the FP5 and FP7 respectively, making navigating easier and viewing pictures and film on the camera far higher quality. The newest feature that both share is built in image processing options to allow pictures to be touched up as soon as they have been taken. Lumix’s FP7 has an impressive 16.1 megapixel sensor while the smaller FP5 features a more standard 14.1 megapixels with both sharing the same 35mm four times optical zoom lens. Both cameras will be available in a range of colours with prices yet to be announced. If they continue where their predecessors left off both should be fun low and mid range digital cameras available at competitive prices, price announcements are expected soon from Lumix for both models.

Qbo Robot Learns to Recognize Itself in a Mirror

Qbo (pronounced "cue-bee-oh") is a newish robot designed by TheCorpora, which in addition to general cuteness boasts some impressive speech and object recognition abilities. But what happens if you put an object recognition robot in a position to see...itself?
Qbo, to its credit, deals with this kind of existential crisis an awful lot better than I would. After identifying the Linux penguin as simply "penguin" (Qbo is built on Linux, hence that particular choice of penguin), Qbo encounters a mirror. "Who is this?" says Qbo's handler, in a statement that would break the will of a lesser 'bot. After being told that the image in the mirror is itself, Qbo then utters exactly the kind of statement we all wish we could say when looking at ourselves in the mirror: "Oh, this is me. Nice."

iPhone 5 Specs Leak: Larger Display, Better Camera and “4G”

The new iPhone 5 is going to be loaded with awesome new features like video chat on 3g and 4g (no longer restricted to WiFi only), face recognition and extreme downloading. Also there is a new chat service between Apple devices! Similar to the blackberry messenger service. It has also been integrated into the SMS/MMS application used originally on the iPhone models. This iPhone 5 will be equipped with a two A5 chip processors and higher more powerful graphic chips that can deliver higher video resolutions (5-9 times better and 7 times faster) and amazing "still" images when taking pictures, AND it will make multi-tasking a lot faster, in addition to adding support for 4G speeds. Obviously the new iPhone 5 will have iMessage, iOS5, iCloud and all the standard features of the iPhone 4S, including Siri the personal assistant. Apple recently filed several patent applications in order to bring 3D picture capturing to the iPhone 5. This phone will be capable of rendering, capturing and processing 3D images, which coincides with the recent changes to the dual-camera hardware. The new iPhone 5 will also be capable of taking pictures in Panorama! The new iPhone 5 will boast 4G also known as LTE (Long Term Evolution)speeds, according to AT&T which is due to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) which is in line with the most recent technology standards for mobile networks.
